Sir Hugh Pelham in Queen's Birthday Honours List

Dr Hugh Pelham, a member of the Biochemical Society, was knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours list announced on 10 June 2011.

Sir Hugh, Director of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Medical Research Council, has been knighted for services to science.

He graduated from Cambridge University and studied for his PhD under Richard Jackson and Tim Hunt, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2001 for ‘discoveries of key regulators of the cell cycle’.

At LMB he has worked on proteins which help to protect cells against the damaging effects of heat.

An interview with Tim Hunt and Sir Hugh, discussing ‘the protein that disappeared’, is available here.
